One of the biggest mistakes when I did Nutrisystem the first time around was my “I don’t need no man” mentality. Like asking someone else for support was going to make me shrivel up and die. Yes, I did lose a lot of weight on my own – but I felt extremely isolated during that time. Well guess what, I obviously do need help and my weight loss journey is a lot less painful if I admit my weaknesses and reach out for every possible mentor! The Nutrisystem weight loss counselors have been a God send.
If you are just tuning in – I (Rebekah) am chronicling our husband and wife Nutrisystem weight loss journey. My husband (Jeff) and I woke up one day and realized that being overweight was no longer an option.
I am a very savvy deal-seeker and daily search for ways to make shopping more budget-friendly for my family. It was no different when we joined Nutrisystem. I sought out to find every possible way to save money on the program. With a little diligence, Nutrisystem can easily fit into your budget and most likely be even cheaper than your current regular monthly food budget.
I begin to dread what is naturally going to be next in our journey … exercise. Now I have a love/hate relationship with exercise. Despite all my excuses, there really IS time in any day to devote to exercise – I just need to stop being so selfish and give a little bit of it up. On the other hand, Jeff has been verbally belligerent about the fact that he is not going to start an exercise routine any time soon – so I knew I had to find a way to sneak it in somehow.
As of today, Jeff and I have officially completed month one of our Nutrisystem weight loss adventure. For the most part thus far it has been virtually painless. Definitely beginning to form an opinion about the Nutrisystem foods. For one, I truly dislike the bars. They taste okay – fudge graham is probably the best. Though after I eat one for a meal, I kind of want to say, “that’s it?” The bar is definitely the one meal that is a stark reminder that we are on a diet, and I really do not like those reminders! Also not a big fan of any of the tomato-based meals. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them.
I want to do a shout out to the weight scale that my husband is using – the My Weigh XL-550 Talking Bathroom Scale. (Note for new readers, this is not a sponsored review. I simply appreciate a good product and like to share my opinions with the world!) So far it seems fairly accurate for a scale that handles large amounts of weight. I actually weigh in on two scales and use the average (they are always within 6 oz to 1 lb of each other).
Although I don’t think that my husband, Jeff shares my sentiment – I felt like I ate SO much this week! Here’s the dealio. I finished the Fast 5 on Thursday, and it did exactly what I anticipated – shed quite a bit of weight and shrunk my stomach. I mean – seriously shrunk my stomach, way smaller than I could have even imagined. The first day I ate the regular plan (I am doing the My Way Select Plan – Complete Women 1800) I was uncomfortably full.
Nothing like a little frustration at the beginning of a diet. Three days post the Nutrisystem Fast 5, and after the initial 7.5 pound weight loss, I’m up 3.1 pounds. Yesterday – in lieu of my three extras and my afternoon snack, I enjoyed a piece of my sons 1st birthday cake – but unless it was a 10,000 calorie piece of cake then I am perplexed about why the scale moved so much in the wrong direction. In fact I’m a little upset and disappointed all at the same time.
So we have completed week one of Nutrisystem! I am not trying to scare anyone off from this amazing plan, but truthfully it was rough. Jeff was used to eating large volumes of food, and I was used to eating whatever I wanted. We swore off fast food several months ago, but I was preparing high carb and high fat meals at home, which obviously wasn’t doing us any favors.
