Nutrisystem Week 15

Nutrisystem Week 15: Two Important Tips

1. Out of sight, out of mind.

Having a difficult time deciding not to eat those Oreo’s or bag of potato chips? Simply don’t buy them. Don’t even have them in the house. But I buy them for the kids, you say? The answer to that is simple – don’t! To be successful in your weight loss goals, you need to make a lifestyle change. Why not get the whole family on board so you can rid yourself of those daily temptations and improve their quality of eating at the same time? You are extremely less likely get into the car and take a drive to the grocery store when cravings hit than you would be to eat a whole bag of potato chips if it is accessible in your pantry.

2. Drink water.

Lots and lots of water. I drink four quarts a day (128 ounces). Find a cute bottle and never let it leave your side. Test drive several to find one that works for you, if drinking water isn’t a chore then you will do it without issue. After trying many, I found the perfect bottle for me – the Camelbak Eddy Bottle (1-Liter/32-Ounce) a few years ago. I have four (each one a different color). I fill them at the beginning of the day and stick them in the refrigerator. Three benefits to this – 1. I can visually see how many bottles I have left to drink. 2. No more second-guessing at the end of the day (did I really fill my bottle four times or was it three?) 3. Easy grab-and-go convenience of reusable plastic bottles.

But I hate water, you say? It’s bland and tasteless. Personally I really love water and have never really ever been a soda or juice drinker, but I hear you – some days I feel like I am chugging along to the same boring song over and over. I have Mio on hand at all times to mix it up when need be.

I am not going to go into all the scientific benefits of water, simply it is just very good for your body. The average adult human body is 50-65% water, so obviously it needs this balance to keep optimally purring along. The main personal benefit for me is that it helps me feel full when I am tempted to scavenge the pantry. My rule of thumb, if I want to eat something that is not in the plan – then I must drink 32 ounces of water first. If I still feel the need to nosh, then I allow myself to eat an unplanned snack. Guess what? 98.9% of the time I finish the water and am no longer interested in straying from my overall goal.

Here is a nifty little hydration calculator for an estimate of how much water you should consume a day.
