Nutrisystem Week 14: Customize Your Menu!

I’ve written about customizing your menu in a previous post, though I want to drive home the importance of taking advantage of this option. I believe it does cost extra from the base price to be able to choose your foods by customizing your menu. Before immediately balking at spending even more money on the plan, hear me out! First of all, Nutrisystem is an investment in a better you – which is priceless in my book. Second, choosing foods that you actually like to eat WILL be the difference between success or failure in your weight loss journey.

It took Jeff and I about 2 months to get a good feel for the foods that we really like, the foods we tolerate and the foods that could potentially bring our weight loss journey to a grinding halt because they are just that bad. There is nothing encouraging about having to choke down a disgusting entree. I know it sounds so simple, but having been on Nutrisystem for 14 weeks, I still sometimes forget to omit some of my least favorite menu items from my auto-delivery shipment. The days that I have to suffer through a meal that I don’t like threatens to break through my resolve every single time. If you are daily eating foods that you like or love, you will not feel as deprived, and that pesky weight will literally fall off before you know it.

So far, my favorite meal entrees are the Three Cheese Chicken, Cheddar Broccoli Rice, Fudge Graham Bar, Loaded Baked Potato, Chicken Pot Pie, Vegetable Lasagna, Multigrain Pilaf, Whole-Wheat Ricotta Crepes. Almost all of the desserts are yummy (of course), though I must say that all of the cookies are just amazing. I would eat them even if I wasn’t on Nutrisystem! My advice, try everything the first time around before you customize – you might be surprised – some entrees that sound lackluster might actually end up being of your favorites!

Now for our Friday weigh-in! Last night we had a planned diversion of pizza and Dairy Queen. I don’t feel in the least bit guilty because having a favorite food every once in a while is part of the entire weight loss journey. Deprivation is truly a surefire way to fail. What I didn’t expect was the havoc our meal was going to wreak on the scale. Good grief! Considering I know for a fact that we did not consume enough calories to gain over three pounds, I am going to contribute most of this to water retention. If anything, this step in the wrong direction is going to fuel our fire to have a rockin’ Nutrisystem week!!
