Why we love the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light 2
By far, this is my favorite baby accessory to date. We travel frequently, and the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light 2 takes all the guesswork out of where baby is going to sleep.
Colors: Available in silver, black & blue
Restrictions: None. The mattress sits flat on the floor, so there is no weight limit. Use the crib from birth until approximately 3 years old, or until child is able to climb out.
Other Pertinent Info: Water-repellant mattress cover, all fabric components are easily removable and machine washable.
What We Love:
Portability. Comes in an awesome, well-made carrying bag. It is relatively lightweight and packs well into a compact size. We have a Chevy Tahoe, so space isn’t really too big of an issue, but it is sturdy when folded down so you don’t have to worry about damaging it when stacking underneath or around other cargo.
Weight. 11 lbs (5 kg). There are very few travel cribs that are lighter on the market at this time. If you are interested in an extremely portable crib, check out Guava travel cribs. We did not consider Guava at the time of purchase because I did not have the time to do extra research. We love every Bjorn product that we own and know that it is a very reputable and quality brand. Though I encourage you to check them out and I would love to hear your experience if you do purchase a Guava travel crib!
Size is right. I do not have exact dimensions of the rooms, though we have yet to find a standard hotel room where this travel crib didn’t fit. We usually put it right between two queen-size beds. The small footprint is very convenient.
Setup is simple. After we read the instructions, set up and take down was SUPER simple. No need to fully-remove legs, fold everything up tight to try to make it fit, deal with broken zippers because you didn’t pack it like the factory, etc – this crib fits right every time without issue. Basically, you unfold each leg – snap them into place (kind of like a tent pole), then flip it upright. Some may just snap the legs in an already upright position, whatever works for you!
The solid-block privacy screen. I love the the mesh upper portion for breathability, though the solid-block lower portion is irreplaceable for us. Our travels always make for interesting bedtime routines, and baby is not always asleep when we put him in the travel crib. The fact that he cannot see us while trying to settle down is perfect, he has his own quiet place without any distractions from the outside.
Easy on the eyes. True to Bjorn form, the travel crib is a work of art. Besides all the practical reasons for loving this crib, I really like that it is simple, unassuming and elegant all at the same time. I have owned a few travel cribs, all with obnoxiously obvious patterns or colors. I don’t like to feel like a bunch of huge, colorful baby items are taking over my house – this gorgeous piece is classic and fits in with any decor.
What may be holding you back:
The price. It is pricey, at around $239 on Amazon. This is a totally personal decision, for us it was 100% worth the dough because we use it frequently. Having an easy-to-use and portable crib was very high on our list of must-have baby items. After using it I can’t even complain about the price, I would pay the premium price again in a heartbeat.
Pricey crib sheets. Again, totally a personal decision whether or not you buy them. I have heard of people that buy generic play yard sheets at their local big-box store and report that they fit just as well as their pricey counterparts. Honestly, we haven’t bought any fitted sheets – just tucked in a lightweight aden + anais blanket around the edges.
I have absolutely no reasons besides the price that would bar me buying this travel crib. It has been perfect for our family, and I recommend it to anyone who is expecting and does a fair amount of traveling.
The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light 2 has incredibly superb quality and I can see this lasting for years. When handling it, I can just feel how well-made it is, and it is a joy to use it every time because it is one less thing to think about when traveling with baby. It works correctly and without issue every single time, and that is priceless.
